In 2016, Altitude started as a one office real estate agency based in Warners Bay.
This month we added two new locations – Belmont and Redhead – to become the largest independent real estate network in the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle area.
We explore what’s been behind our rapid growth to five offices and how our approach benefits our buyers and sellers.
We began with a focus on the future
When we began Altitude four years ago, we wanted to become known by the buyers, sellers and investors of the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle area as a forward-thinking brand that left no stone unturned when it came to matching the right people with the right property.
Although we knew part of achieving this was about good old-fashioned customer service, we also took the view that by using modern software and systems we could become much more efficient and responsive. So right from the start we invested heavily in technology.
While virtual tours and video have become reasonably widespread among real estate agents since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the reality was that we’ve been using these technologies to help buyers and renters get a better feel for a property from the moment we opened our doors.
We also wanted to reach new audiences in a more engaging way and so focused more effort into marketing online and through social media than most real estate agents.
The flexibility to grow
But no matter how much technology improves efficiencies, real estate will always be a people business. So another driver for us in opening the doors to our agency four years ago – especially when it came to rentals – was to be able to better respond to people’s needs by managing properties in a flexible and innovative way.
We didn’t believe this was possible if we were burdened by the constraints of a traditional real estate franchise. It was important to us that we remained independent so that we could focus on doing business the way we knew worked best in our local area.
A new era in Altitude
Now, as we expand, we’re entering a new era for the business and one that should benefit our clients even more as we tap into more potential buyers and renters and cast our net wider without losing our local knowledge.
While we now have five locations, we’re still very much one business. That means we share data across our offices and between agents and property managers. This is a huge benefit to clients in selling their property as the entire team has access to all buyers – and we meet a lot of them.
We also actively look to provide a seamless experience to every client, no matter which part of the local area they’re in.
This simply doesn’t happen in the larger real estate brands. Even though franchise offices may be under the same banner they’re not really connected. Each business operates independently, so customers only get one agency’s contacts and marketing – not an entire network’s.
Attracting the best talent
One of the other things that we’re proud of is that, as we’ve grown we have also attracted the very best local real estate talent. In fact, we like to think we’ve become something of an attraction-based business for real estate professionals.
Our strong culture has created true camaraderie across the sales, property management and administration arms of our business. Every team member actively helps each other do a better job for our clients.
These are some of the reasons that local real estate heavyweight David Ayliffe agreed to merge his two agencies – based in Redhead and Belmont – with the Altitude brand. Dave has been working in the industry since 1993 and is well-known and well-regarded in our area.
Over his career, Dave has grown many successful real estate businesses and has won numerous awards for his skill as a real estate agent. He is staying on as a Partner to do what he loves – sell real estate.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunities coming into the Altitude fold will bring to all my clients and staff and the reach it will give us,” Dave said.
“I’m passionate about what I do and I’ll still very much be on-board selling and listing. However, I believe that the move will help all of us serve our clients in a more flexible and personal way.”
A force to be reckoned with
The addition of David’s two offices now makes Altitude the largest independent sales team in the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle region. And we know we’ll be able to provide an even better experience to our clients with him and his team on board.
Now we’re looking forward to the next four years and hope to take our customer service to a whole new level.
